EVALUATION Q1

Well our film is a thriller and within that genre there is just a whole load of typical conventions. Within our film we have used some conventional codes from a thriller movie however not exactly to the full extent.

Looking at this screenshot of one of the titles appearing on the kitchen desk. We had the titles over an action that the female character was doing. We did this because a few of the thriller opening we have seen do the very same, this is done in the opening of the film 'Seven'. Its effective because its a typical way of starting an opening therefore we felt confident in using this technique.
We also used the lighting the way almost every thriller movie does, shadow darkness and etc. obviously we used this technique so we can present the tension and suspense rising within the opening. the lighting i feel is only effective to an extent, its the things that happen really gets the opening going, the lighting just get the audience prepared.

Here within the Mis-en-scene, the props we use are really effective, we have the use of binary oppositions with the milk and the bleach, mixed! we did that because we wanted to present the ordinary with something murderous.
Before we started filming we were told many times that normally in a students opening there are not enough close ups. So here is an extreme close up of the bleach. We did this so we can show the audience that there is a dangerous product being used.
The location here is to show the innocent male character not being aware of whats happening at home. We did this because in most thriller films we see the victim being completely unaware of whats going to happen, so we decided to have this technique. This is something conventional within a thriller, the victims unawareness.
Again the Mis-en-scene, the props used here: rat poison and sugar, binary oppositions. I dint think this is something you see typically in a thriller movie, however i do think its conventional, the whole idea of it is a way of developing more into the story.
Extreme close ups are one of the things that were stressed on alot. These close ups emphasize on the characters facial expression or an object either to show how dangerous it is or what emotion is being expressed from the character. We tried to give out hints to the audience by using this extreme close up to what might  be coming next. Its similar to the close ups in the film 'Seven' of the hands, trying to hint things out but not fuly giving evrything away.
Ok this is where we decided that the idea of a split screen would give the audience what each character is doing while the conversation is happening. We thought that we shoudl give the audience an idea where each character is.

The film 'Seven' has extream close ups on the hands of the character, same to what we have done but with close ups on the characters eyes. Also there are shots of the props used within the title sequencehowevevr with extream close ups, again similar to what we have done. Another thing is titles, they are over the rolling film exactly what we have done. So overall we have used conventional codes for a thriller, we've also developed our story howevevr only to give out a few hints of what might happen during the film, whats different with the title sequence of 'Seven'; is that its not exactly straigh foward however an audience can work out what might be happening.

EVALUATION!!!!

In the lesson back after completing the filming and the planning of the blogs, we have now started the evaluating our whole journey of the filming. In that lesson we had with Bernard, we watched everyone final finished films, and every time we watched one groups we had to write down a few comments on the filming, the editing and a few things on how it made us feel. After doing that we were given the evaluation sheet, the first task we were given is to use the wrodle.net site to see what were the common words used on our films! however at the moment I'm finishing difficulty using the thing1 I'm getting really annoyed!!!!!

Evaluation!!

After finishing our film and our planning blogs, we now started to evaluate. In bernards class he informed us that we all need to start to evaluate our films. We also watched our classes films and we had to somment on what it made us feel and what were the strong points.

EVALUATION Q6 [part 1]

First lesson back after the deadline we watched everyone's thrillers, I felt nervous as we didn't show it on the big screen in front of everyone, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. After watching we had to write what we think of other groups' openings in terms of technical lang and also how it made us feel. They did the same to ours. We got very positive reviews, everyone liked the way we used bleach and rat poison, they liked the sound and everyone felt sorry for the husband who's coming home! Many people said they would like to carry on watching it to see what happens, in other worlds we created a piece of suspence! Here's a world cloud we made using http://www.wordle.net/ :

Our Film

"Black Widow" an evil woman that preys on men is shown to be the most evil, veil most inhuman woman on earth, purposely attracting her pray with her flirtatious ways and poisoned mind compared to wild gruesome spider catching a fly. She, the no heart valentine hating woman has never thought to live in peace but to have goal to destroy the man-kind. With no respect to the law or civilization in any case. She stands in her Torture chamber known to every mother or wife as place that supplies life. The kitchen a man's nightmare and women's specialty. This veil woman has no limit to feel any guilt or resentment.  Neither to love her prey or let it free.

This could be a trailer..............lol could of finished it....i had to leave the reader wanting more

What was missing

At the beginning when we first finished our basic plan and getting ready for our pitch We realized that we was missing a couple of things.

  1. location and location shots
  2. risk assessment
  3. sound
  4. props, costumes (Mise en Scene)
  5. title
  6. storyboard

Planning.....(after movie)

I know this blog is late because we have already filmed but this was our plan. We made a big decision on choosing what to do about but after some wise comments from teacher, we all agreed to drop the non interesting teen chase. We tried to come up with different ideas but we found some faults in each one from stressing out thinking our movie is going to be terrible our teacher then again gave us a few ideas which were perfect to our limited group of three we then also changed a few parts to suit our location.

we found out we were changing to many things and risking on wasting precious time so we started from scratch used our primary idea and added scenes that wold be appropriate to our film.

the rough guide to horror movies

Funny, but few days ago I found a book called THE ROUGH GUIDE TO HORROR MOVIES. I had a little read through and I found some information interesting.

"So what is horror?
This strong emotion, one of the oldest and deepest of humankind, is what we feel when anything frightens us or promotes fear or terror."

This made me think about the purpose of making thrillers... I think that thrillers as well as other movies are meant to entertain us, in a level we feel engaged and should literally be out of our seat, wanting to know what will happen. Watching movie and feeling frigtened makes us feel entertained. If it didn't, why would these type of movies be watched for so many years?  (First horror movie was made in 1895- Haunted Castle, it was only two minute movie, but this was the start of suspense)

soundtrack pro

This is another tutorial I've looked at, this time about SoundTrack Pro. Mainly about how to remove background noise. This is what we struggeled with most, now I know I will remember!

meeting th deadline (stressful times!)

Well... I officially can say: OUR THRILLER OPENING IS DONE !!!!
title that appears at the end
Today, we spend about 5h adding sound and titles. I must say-it was stressful. I had moments where I felt like giving up but we worked our way through and finished it, and when I watched it I felt proud. To manage our time, me and Fahmida were incharded of music and Abde did editing and titles.

Using with the SoundTrack Pro

With music... well, we didn't MAKE our own one, although we tried. We found good example on youtube, which we really liked and were deprerate to use it. Technician helped us to convert it and we could upload the song into out movie. It was not copy righted, and the artist said that people can use his work as long as they credit him, so we did and our music was made by Dilan Sripek (bless him for making amazing piece of music that perfectly suits our opening). We added some parts such as digetic sound and some effects as well.

When it comes to tiles... I wasn't incharded of it, and to be honest I imagined them as something else, but still... Abde did a pretty good job.

I can't wait to see the movie on the big screen and only today it hit me that we've done a good job!
